Post Conference Tour

Discover Northern Germany with Elbe River
We heartily invite you to visit with us the Wendland region. We want to show you a region with all their beauties and their specialities. An old history with different tribes and influences created a unique area. Old traditional villages, the former borderline to the DDR, the beautiful nature, old castles and a Elbe river ship tour are just few points we got to experience. The post conference tour is in english and is attended by Mr. Workman a former american intelligence agent during the Cold War. He will tell us about the history, about the Cold War and the borderline to the DDR.
The district of Lüchow-Dannenberg, proudly called “Wendland” by its inhabitants, was the least densely populated area in former Western Germany. Situated on the Elbe River along the former Iron Curtain, Gorleben was designated in 1977 to be a site of a nuclear waste storage. As a consequence, it became a melting pot for all sorts of anti-nuclear movement groups who settled there, formed solidarity with local farmers, engaged in rural livelihoods and businesses and created a unique social mixture of stubbornness and creativity.
